Denis Bowen South African 1921-2006
Denis Bowen, painter, attended Huddersfield School of Art, after having served in the Second World War in the Royal Navy; he continued his studies at the Royal College of Art. He held various teaching posts including Hammersmith, the Central School of Art, the RCA and Hornsey Art College before becoming a visiting Professor at Victoria University, Canada in the 1960’s.
With Avery Wilson and Halima Nalecz, Denis Bowen founded the New Vision Gallery, a centre of Avant-guarde art from over Europe until 1966, when it closed.
Denis Bowen has had numerous one man shows in the UK & abroad and his work can be found in numerous collections including the Tate Gallery.
