After Michelangelo Buonarroti The Climbers (Les Grimpeurs).

After Michelangelo Buonarroti The Climbers (Les Grimpeurs) Three figures from Michelangelo Battle of Cascina 1510. Original etching after Michelangelo by Marcantonio Raimondi (1480-1527) and after Lucas Van Leyden. This is a reversed copy printed on hand made laid paper with a fleur di lies water mark. Trimmed to edges, as usual, with slight loss of ML in lower right corner. The engraving is attached with glue down the left side, to a larger handmade sheet of laid paper, again water marked. In pencil is written Barbel xiv 361 487 copy. The number 487 probably refers to the Bartsch 487 catalogue number. Maybe the Barbel means Bartsch. The verso of the sheet is heavily stained and appears to have been glued onto another sheet sometime in its history. There is also some black spots , possible spore which look inactive. The discolouration has come through the sheet making the image unevenly discoloured. Still a nice large crisp image. Sheet size 27.5 x 22.5 cm (11 x 9 inches) approximate measurements.
