Anthony Gross etching with drypoint initialled ‘AG’ in the tower symbol within the plate just above the hand written title. The etching is signed and dated 1924 in pencil by the artist. Still in its original frame-Unexamined out of frame. The mount has a light damp stain along the right vertical side of the mount, not sure if it has affected the sheet but the image looks clean.
Image Size 303 x 147mm (11 7/8 x 53/4 inches )
Reference: Herdman: 2314, Reynolds 18. Deighton states that there were a unnumbered edition of 60 copies. Herdman states that there are not many details on this plate, in fact there is no record of a ‘Rue De Brutus’ in Rouen or that is was also called ‘Rue De Bretons’.
A typical Anthony Gross etching of this period where he likes to explore the play of light, highlighting and playing on contrasts.
