Édouard Lantéri Bronze Plaquette.

The bronze plaquette is made in bronze in honor of Richard Phene Spiers. It is signed by Edouard Lanteri and dated 1905.

Obverse: Profile portrait of bearded man facing left; text at top, “R. PHENE SPIERS/ ARCHITECT”; down right, “MDCCCCV”; bottom left, D LATERISC”; at bottom, “A RECORD OF THE ESTEEM OF HIS PUPILS COLLEAGUES AND FRIENDS”

Reverse: Ionic capital in classical landscape with temples; at top, “THE GREAT TRUST BETWEEN MAN AND MAN/ IS THE TRUST OF GIVING COUNSEL”

Item details

Spiers was an English architect and author (b. 1838, d. 1916). He first studied at King’s College London and later at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and occupied a long mastership at the Royal Academy.  He traveled widely (France, Spain, Egypt, Syria and the East), where he recorded architectural data and made many water-colour sketches.
