Description

An original copper engraving printed from the original block for ‘Engravings by Eric Gill’.  Signed in reverse to lower left in plate and engraved in copper. Published by Douglas Cleverdon, printed by The Fanfare Press, 1929. One of 400 copies printed on paper specially manufactured for this edition with the number ‘84’ in top right corner. Very good. Not mounted / matted.

Reference: Physick 369, Cleverdon 91, 94.   Cut in 1926. The plate was subsequently used for illustration on Plate 85 in   ‘Engravings by Eric Gill’, published by Douglas Cleverdon, printed by The Fanfare Press, 1929. There was also an edition of 50 signed wood engravings. Signed in reverse to lower left in plate and engraved in copper.
