Eric Gill signed and numbered wood engraving ‘Death and the Lady’

Description

Eric Gill wood engraving, signed by the artist, no. 16 of an edition of 25. Printed on thin japon paper 1924. Fine proof for an illustration ‘Sonnets and Verses’ by Enid Clay, Eric Gill’s sister, published by the Golden Cockerel Press. Mounted and attached for four corner tabs , the tabs are attached to the card mount. There are a couple of light fox marks noticeable in the margins, else very good.

Felix Dennis was an English publisher, poet, spoken-word performer and philanthropist. His company, Dennis Publishing, pioneered computer and hobbyist magazine publishing in the United Kingdom. One of the three editors of ‘Oz’ Magazine.

Reference: Physick 285.  Illustration on page 10 of ‘Sonnets and Verses’ by Enid Clay, number 25 of the publications of the Golden Cockerel Press, 1925. Physick states that Gill sold the signed edition prints for 10/6d
