Eric Gill copper engraving, second state, printed for ‘Engravings by Eric Gill’.   One of 400 copies printed on paper specially manufactured for this edition. With the number ‘83’ in top right corner as issued. In very good condition. Not mounted/ matted or framed.

Reference:Physick 368,Cleverdon 90, 83. Physick states that ‘Proof’ was from a design from a photograph in the Daily Mail, 1926. This is the second state. In the first state, the skaters were  nude,The plate was subsequently used for an illustration as Plate 83 of Engravings by Eric Gill (E.R.G.17) , with a preface by the artist, printed by the Fanfare Press, London, published by Douglas Cleverdon, Bristol, 1929. ‘There was a edition of 50 (presumably signed and numbered?) and a hand coloured edition.
