An original wood engraving printed from the woodblock by Gill and Hague in 1934. Printed on machine made paper as issued. The sheet has a light scattering of foxing, mainly on margins, most of which can be hidden with a mount, however, there is one faint fox mark in the top right corner within the image, otherwise in very good condition.

This wood engraving was originally printed as an illustration on page 12 of ‘Passio Domini Nostri Jesu Christi’ , No. 35 of the publications of the Golden Cockerel Press, 1927. The woodcut was subsequently printed from the original woodblock, page 8, for the Douglas Cleverdon edition ‘Engravings 1928-1933 by Eric Gill’, printed by Gill and Hague, published by Faber & Faber Ltd in 1934. This edition is rare and was printed in a small edition size.
