Two Eric Gill Wood Engravings on One Sheet.

The two wood engravings printed on one sheet are titled  ‘The Tale of Sir Topas‘ and  ‘The Tale of Melibeus’ . Printed from the original woodblock by Gill and Hague in 1934 on machine made paper, unsigned as issued.  There are some soft handling marks otherwise in very good condition.

Item details

These wood engravings were originally cut for Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ published by ‘The Golden Cockerel Press’ in 1929. The edition was number 63 in the publications of the Golden Cockerel Press. The set consists of four volumes, which then & now are highly prized by collectors. They were subsequently published in  Douglas Cleverdon edition‘Engravings 1928-1933 by Eric Gill’ in 1934.

An original wood engraving by Gill from the 1934 Douglas Cleverdon edition ‘Engravings 1928-1933 by Eric Gill’ published by Faber & Faber Ltd. These woodcuts were printed in an edition size of 400 copies.
