Description

Eric Gill wood engraving made in 1916. Not numbered, but signed in pencil ‘Eric G’.  Trimmed close to margin. Glued at top edged to a sheet of hand made paper. Sheet has discoloured. Not mounted/ matted.

Size sheet size 4.1 x 4.3cm; (1.75 x 1 .75 inches)

Frame size 38 x 28cm (15 x11 inches)

Reference: Physick 67: Made in 1916. Physick states the wood engraving was used as an illustration on page 2 of ‘Concerning Dragons’, a rhyme by pepler, No.9 of the publications of St. Dominic’s Press, Ditchling, Sussex, 1916. The block was subsequently used for illustration on page 20 of ‘God and the Dragon’, rhymes by Peplar, St. Dominic’s Press publication. Number 15, 1917; On page 26 of ‘Nisi Dominus’ rimes by Pepler  publication Number 29, 1919.
