An original wood engraving printed in red and black ink from five blocks for Engravings by Eric Gill’.  Published by Douglas Cleverdon, printed by The Fanfare Press, 1929. One of 400 copies printed on paper specially manufactured for this edition with the number  ’55’ in top right corner as issued. In good condition. Not mounted / matted.

Reference: Physick 219, Ditchling 189, 55. Designed as a certificate Printed from five blocks, 1923. The block was subsequently used for illustration on page 35 of  ‘Wood Engravings’ publication 44, 1924; on Plate 55 in   ‘Engravings by Eric Gill’, published by Douglas Cleverdon, printed by The Fanfare Press, 1929. The first version of this certificate contained a small representation of the Holy Ghost as a dove but this was subsequently replaced by a red star.
