Description

An original wood engraving printed from the original block for ‘Engravings by Eric Gill’.  Published by Douglas Cleverdon, printed by The Fanfare Press, 1929. One of 400 copies printed on paper specially manufactured for this edition with the number ‘80’ in top right corner as issued. Very good. Not mounted / matted.

Reference: Reference Physick 339; Ditchling 71, 80:    Proof of an illustration on the title page to ‘Passio Domini Nostri Jesu Christi’ number 35 of the publication of the Golden cockerel Press, 1926. The block was subsequently used for illustration on plate 80 of   ‘Engravings by Eric Gill’, published by Douglas Cleverdon, printed by The Fanfare Press, 1929. Also titled ‘M.Magdalen with Pot of Ointment’ There was also a signed and numbered edition of 15 copies.
