Eric Gill wood engraving of the Initial letter W which was used as an illustration to page 156, Vol.lll of Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales‘, Golden Cockerel Press, 1929. No.63 of the publications of the Golden Cockerel Press. The woodcut was subsequently printed from the original woodblock for the Douglas Cleverdon edition ‘Engravings 1928-1933 by Eric Gill’, printed by Gill and Hague, published by Faber & Faber Ltd in 1934. This edition is rare and was printed in a small edition size. Unisigned as published. There is a 15mm tear in margin which can be hidden with a mount, otherwise in excellent condition.
