Description

An original wood engraving printed from the original block for ‘Engravings by Eric Gill’.  Published by Douglas Cleverdon, printed by The Fanfare Press, 1929. One of 400 copies printed on paper specially manufactured for this edition with the number ‘15’ in top right corner as issued. Very good. Not mounted / matted.

Reference: Physick 91; Ditchling 84, 15 . Proof of an illustration on page 37, volume 1, Number 3 of ‘The Game’ published  by the St. Dominic’s Press, Ditchling, Sussex, Easter 1917.  Signed in reverse to lower left corner. The block was subsequently used on page 59 of ‘Horae Beatae Virginis Mariae Juzta Ritum Sacri Ordinis Praedicatorum Jussu Editae’ , number 37 of the publications of  the St. Dominic’s Press, 1923; as plate 15 in   ‘Engravings by Eric Gill’, published by Douglas Cleverdon, printed by The Fanfare Press, 1929.
