Eric Gill wood engraving ‘Toilet’

Description

Eric Gill wood cut titled  Toilet , which is after a drawing by  the artist Norval Gray. The wood engraving editioned in Douglas Cleverdon in 1929 is always uneven. Possibly the plate had damage when used.However the sheet is very clean with the number ’60’ in the top margin as stated by Physick.

Reference: Physick 256,D225, 60. Proof after a drawing from life, 1923. The block was subsequently used for illustration as plate 60 in ‘Engravings by Eric Gill’, published by Douglas Cleverdon, printed by The Fanfare Press, 1929
