EVERGREEN TALES; OR, TALES FOR THE AGELESS, edited by Jean Hersholt, Limited Editions Club, 1949 – 1952, first editions thus with these colour illustrations, 15 volumes in cloth, housed in 5 paper board slip-cases with paper labels. Each are large 4to and bound in cloth. A complete set, all numbered 851 of 2500 copies. Each have the Surrealist book plate of Andrew Murray, the Director of the Mayor Gallery in Cork Street, London. Some, not all, have the ink stamp on endpapers, Property of Herbert B.Beidler Architect on the endpapers. Each volume illustrated by renown artists of the day, namely Arthur Szyk, Hans Bendix, Rafaello Busoni, Edward Ardizzone, Fritz Eichenberg, Everett Gee Jackson, Fritz Kredel, Robert Lawson, Edy Legrand, William Moyers, Sylvain Sauvage, Henry Pitz, Edward Shenton, Ervine Metz, Malcolm Cameron. They are all in excellent condition, the boxes a little worn, as to be expected. A Very good set.

Bluebeard, Hansel and Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk: All numbered 851 of 2500 copies from the limited editions club. Hansel and Gretel is signed by illustrator Henry C. Pitz. Bluebeard and Jack and the Beanstalk are signed by Jean Hersholt, the editor. All with the ink stamp on endpapers, Property of Herbert B.Beidler Architect.

King Midas and the Golden Touch, Pandora’s Box, The Emperor’s New Clothes. All numbered 851 of 2500 copies from the limited editions club. The Emperor’s New Clothes is signed by illustrator Ervine Metzl and by the editor, Jean Hersholt.

King Midas and the Golden Touch, is signed by the artist only, Fritz Eichenberg; Pandora’s Box , is signed by the artist only, Rafaello Busoni. All with the ink stamp on endpapers, Property of Herbert B.Beidler Architect.

The Ugly Duckling, The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood and Ali Baba & the Forty Thieves. All numbered 851 of 2500 copies from the limited editions club. The Sleeping Beauty is not signed, just numbered. The Ugly Duckling is signed by illustrator, Everett Gee Jackson and by the editor, Jean Hersholt. Ali Baba & the Forty Thieves is signed by the artist only, Edward Ardizzone. The prints are original lithographs printed by the Curwen Press in the London, 1949.

Size of each box: 32 x 21cm (12.5 x 8 inches) thick 4cm (1.5 inches)
