Francis Bott oil painting on canvas but without the struts to hold it firm. The painting is signed and dated ‘1968’ in pencil by the artist. On the verso of the painting there is a Galerie Hilt ink stamp which indicates that it was exhibited there. The painting does have slight handling creases and one vertical creases which has caused a small loss of paint about 2 x 7mm in area. Otherwise it is in good condition and would stretch out well.
Size 600 x 800mm
‘Bott’s style continued to develop throughout his career and in the 1960’s and the 1970’s, he embarked on two major pictorial series, namely Espaces Concertés and Cathédrales. These represented a change to a more linear approach and are characterised by a more vibrant colours in keeping with the mood of the times.’ Quote from Christie’s catalogue ‘Works From The Studio of Francis Bott (1904-1998), 2006.
