Francis Bott exhibition poster for ‘Galerie D’Art’ La Colomb, Italy 1990.  It was for a solo show held between December and January in 1990. In very good condition.

In the 1930’s-40’s Bott exhibited at the Galerie Maeght Surrealist show organised by André Breton and Marcel Duchamp. However, after 1948 Bott’s work transformed into abstraction and he was showing alongside Pierre Soulages, Hans Hartung and Ben Nicholson. A film made in 1957 about him, Soulages and Viere da Silva, titled’ Three Artists From Montparnasse’s’  they were the centre of the École de Paris movement  at the time. The lithograph was made in this period.

‘Bott’s style continued to develop throughout his career and in the 1960’s and the 1970’s, he embarked on two major pictorial series, namely Espaces Concertés and Cathédrales. These represented a change to a more linear approach and are characterised by a more vibrant colours in keeping with the mood of the times.’  Quote from Christie’s catalogue ‘Works from the Studio of Francis Bott (1904-1998), 2006.
