The lithograph titled ‘Close Up. Number 3′ formed a set of six lithographs which were printed in colour on wove ‘hot pressed’ paper and printed to the sheet edge. The print is signed, titled and dated 1967 in pencil, and is numbered 66 of an edition of 75 copies. The print was printed and published by the Curwen Press, Cambridgeshire, in 1967. In excellent condition.

‘Close Up’ is a series of six lithographs inspired by the artist’s experience of photography down an electron microscope (cutting edge technology for the time). Cohen’s images are artistic interpretations of ‘blown up’ microbes and bacteria and required new developments in lithography to carry out his vision. Seriously groovy and important pieces of 1960’s British art. An example of the complete set is held in the Tate Gallery’s permanent print collection.
