This is a portrait of one of her daughters.
‘This was inspired by my sixteen-year-old daughter. At sixteen you are neither a child nor an adult, so it is a time of endless possibility. I was also inspired by Watteau’s painting ‘Gillies’. It shows a young man dressed as Pierrot, standing aloof from his troupe of traveling players. There is a sweet sadness about it’
Jane Lydbury.
