Crès et Cie., Paris, 1923. 8vo. xi, (1), 230, (2)pp. Later gilt-lettered, leather-backed boards, new-end-papers original paper covers bound-in, stamp of a fish on rear board. “Cinquième édition” is a fictive printing of the first edition. Early issue with the author given as “Le Corbusier-Saugnier”. Edition statement on the front cover not in the text itself. A new edition was published in 1924, with revisions, under the name Piere Jeanneret adopted name “Le Corbusier.” From the library of the distinquished architect Marshall Sisson with his ownership inscription. hence to his partner and successor Peter Foster, who did the rebinding. Peter Foster, architect and Surveyor of Westminster Abbey 1973-88, was born on May 2, 1919. He died on March 6, 2010, aged 90. Foster s interest in lettering was manifest in the Vine Press, a private printing press he established with his friend John Peters, hand-printing a series of volumes on handmade paper which are now collectors items. Foster also became an adept bookbinder and his fish sign is now cited in catalogues.
