Not dated but circa 1830. Oblong 8vo,bound in contemporary paper covered boards with a decorative border and text on cover. Yellow end papers. Half title page, hand coloured frontis facing a hand coloured title page, followed with 96 pages and illustrated with 10 woodcuts, of which 6 are hand-coloured. A charming little children’s book in FRENCH TEXT on the practical aspects of the arts, including printing process and book binding. There are text illustrations of charts for drawing in proportion, printed music, and many definitions of arts and trades. The second half is taken up by an introduction to colour, information on simple and composite colours, some of which are illustrated on the title page which is surrounded by fourteen colour samples. The hand coloured plates illustrate painter, sculptor, engraver, copperplate printer, letterpress printer, and finally bookbinder. A book is promote knowledge. The spine has been professionally repaired at some point in its history replacing the original paper covered spine. The covers are a little worn with some rubbing, otherwise in very good condition with a bright interior. Scarce, with OCLC listing only Princeton, Newberry, Morgan Library, none in the UK instituions. Not in Gumuchian.
