Heindorff, born in 1949, attended art college in Germany, 1970-74, gaining a German National Scholarship, 1972-76, and a DAAD scholarship for London, 1976-7, attending Royal College of Art. In 1976, he won a John Moores Prize at Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, later winning the prestigious Schmidt-Rottluff Prize and Villa Massimo Prize, Rome.. A retrospective was held in 1987 at Northern Centre for Contemporary Arts.
Heindorff taught at Royal College of Art and was included in its Exhibition Road Show of 1988. The Tate and Arts Council hold works, and he is included in many important public and private collections.
