Oxford University Press, 1939. 8vo. 192pp. Bound in blue cloth with gilt lettering on spine and on spine. Illustrated with seven colour illustrations and many black and white line drawings by Ardizzone. Former owners colourful book plate David Wells 1941, facing the Surrealist book plate of Andrew Murray. Dust wrapper creased and is torn with small pieces missing. Quite rare.

Written by H. J. Kaeser who was a German Jewish author, many of whose books have been translated into English and published by OUP. Published just before the outbreak of the Second World War. ‘The story is about a brave boy Mimff was intensely interested in everything new and Unusual, and he just did not know what fear meant Fitting for a child in the midst of a war…’

Provenance: Andrew Murray, Director of Mayor Gallery, Cork Street, London. The Mayor Gallery exhibited Ardizzone s work in the 1960 s . Andrew Murray lent his personal collection of books and prints etc. to the travelling exhibition by Middlesbrough Museum in 1982.
