A Soft ground etching printed in colours on thick soft japon. Although titled and dated 1946 by the artist in pencil only, Hayter has not signed the etching. There is a mount stain and some marks on the left margin. Depending on the accuracy of the colour printing in Moorhead and Black catalogue raisonne, this could be a trial colour proof. The image in the books suggest a much darker colour in the lower background, whereas this etching it is a purple colour. Rare.

Reference :Moorhead and Black 170; Moorhead and Black state that the plate was began in 1945 and finished in 1946. There are three trial proofs and colour trials 1-5. The final edition size was quite small, only 30 were completed on Kochi & Cranach paper. Printed using a Zinc plate using sugar lift, soft ground etchings & scorper. The etching for sale above probably is on Kochi paper.
