Robert Austin drawing in pencil on buff coloured paper, with other two loosely drawn figure studies in the margin below. The sheet has eight pinholes made by the artist for attaching onto board; two light folds in the paper, one in the main image the other in the lower margin affecting a sketch, otherwise in very good condition. There is a Sothebys Studio stamp on reverse.
Sheet size 385 x 290mm (15.5 x 11.5 inches)
The image is of a young couple seated with the woman holding a baby, is a similar theme as his etching ‘Wayside family’ made in 1923, no 39 in the Campbell Dodgson’s 1930 publication ‘A Catalogue of Etchings and Engravings by Robert Austin R.E. from 1913-1930’. I suspect this was drawn at the same time Circa 1922 and may have possibly been a prelude to the final etching.
