Robert Austin study for the etching titled ‘Cowherd’,signed in capitals in lower right corner. Drawn on paper taken from a sketch book with a serrated left edge. On reverse there are more sketches of milking implements which have been hurriedly crossed off.  This drawing has been mounted at some point with remnants of hinges on the reverse. There is light foxing and a light fold at the bottom right corner.

Item details

The ‘Cowherd’ was printed in a limited edition of 30 copies and the plate was destroyed. It is 53 in the Campbell Dodgson catalogue raisonne published in 1930 by the Twenty-One Gallery.

Purchased at the Studio Sale in 2004, Sothebys.
