A copper plate engraving and soft ground etching printed in colours by Stanley William Hayter. Made in 1971, it is printed on hand made B.F.K.Rives paper . Not numbered as this was a ‘Trial Colour Proof’ but dedicated to a friend along the top margin ‘For Con on his happy return love Bill’. Signed and titled in pencil by the artist in the lower margin. The sheet has some light handling folds in margin, else in very good condition.

They state that there wer colour trails A-D; Artists proofs; 1-5; Artists Proof; 1-xx. The plate was eventually printed in a limited edition of 100 numbered copies on B.F.K. Rives paper. The edition was printed by Hector Saunier and was reproduced on the cover of John Montague’s ‘Collected Poems’, published by the Oxford University Press, 1982.
