‘Skaters’ by Eric Gill, copper engraving, second state, in the first state, the skaters were completely nude, originally etched in 1920. As published in the 1929 Cleverdon Edition , one of 400 copies. slight overall browning else good.

Physick states that ‘Proof of a design from a photograph in the Daily mail, 1926. The plate was subsequently used for an illustration as Plate 83 of Engravings by Eric Gill (E.R.G.17) , with a preface by the artist, printed by the Fanfare Press, London, published by Douglas Cleverdon, Bristol, 1929. ‘There was a edition of 50 (presumably signed and numbered?) and a hand coloured edition.
