Engraving made in 1955, it was also titled ‘Lunar Landscape‘. Hayter used a copper plate which was engraved with soft ground etching and a scorper. Printed in colour on hand made Lauriat paper, the etching is number 12 of 50 copies only. There is a small 1cm tear and light handling folds in margin, not affecting image, else in very good condition. A very nice impression of a rare image.
Plate size 366 x 287mm
Sheet size 550 x 380 mm
Ref: Black & Moorehead 220. Black and Moorhead used this image for the dustwrapper of ‘The Prints of Stanley William Hayter: A Complete catalogue’ 1992. They state that a few trial proofs were made. Numbers up to 10 were printed on B.F.K.paper, and numbers 11-20 were printed in 1968 on Lauriat paper. The highest number recorded printed were 40, therefore the edition size is 40 copies, not 50 as stated.
