Oblong 8vo. Bound in laminated pictorial boards 48pp. On front loose endpaper is the Surrealist bookplate of Andrew Murray. Illustrated throughout in colour by Edward Ardizzone. Loosely inserted is The Scottish Arts Council label for an exhibition, in which this copy was lent for. Fine copy.

Originally published in 1946, anonymously written by Grahame Greene , his first book for children, illustrated by Dorothy Craigie. (Dorothy Glover). This is a new edition published by Bodley Head with new text and illustrations. Early one morning the little train wakes up in his home town, Little Snoreing, and decides to go on an adventure. He chugs and puffs his way through villages, past castles and over bridges…

Provenance: Andrew Murray, Director of Mayor Gallery, Cork Street, London. The Mayor Gallery exhibited Ardizzone s work in the 1960 s . Andrew Murray lent his personal collection of books and prints etc. to the travelling exhibition by Middlesbrough Museum in 1982.
