Tom C. Moore, although named Thomas always known as ‘Tom’, a sculptor, born in South East London, youngest of eight children. He left school at 13 and trained as an engineer until he was 17 years old and old enough to join the Navy for conscription. He worked as a Radar operator during in the Second Wold War stationed in Norway and Iceland. After the war he continued his studies as a engineer. Art being his first love, he attended evening classes and began making sculpture and entering works into competitions and group exhibitions, mainly exhibiting in South London. He had several large commissions, one by Ben Birnburg, a Civil Rights lawyer, for his front garden facing Blackheath, this piece is listed in Arthur Byron ‘London Statues:a guide to London’s outdoor statues’, 1981.Plus a large abstract sculpture for a office block in Croydon. He won several prizes for his work.
