Dorothea Wight [British 1944- 2013]

Dorothea Wight was a British print maker and artist. Born in Devon, he father a potter. She attended Dartington college of Art and the Slade Scool of Fine Art in 1964-68. Wight is known for her mezzotints, but primarily for founding the Studio Prints on Queens Crescent in Camden London. It was there that she worked with some of the most important contemporary British artists, including Lucian Freud, Ken Kiff, Kitaj, Auerbach, Paula Rega etc. She married her collaborator in the workshop, Marc Balakjian, also a print maker. The two would lead Studio Prints in introducing a number of techniques to British printmaking,and the studio was considered “at the forefront of British Printmaking for 40 years”.

Her work has been widely exhibited and are in a number of collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, British Museum, Fitzwilliam Museum etc.
