Stanley Spencer sketches on light thin cream paper. The sheet has two sets of ideas, both at opposing angles. Not uncommon for Spencer. The sketch in pencil shows children climbing though a fence. On the upper margins but upside down are Crucifixion scenes in biro. Sheet is slightly ruckled, some very old faint crease marks, else very good.
Sheet size 500 x 410mm (19.5 x 16inches)
Although the drawing is not dated, Spencer did made a lithograph in 1954 titled ‘Children Retrieving a Ball’. The above is a study for the lithograph. He also worked on a series of Crucifixion scenes in the 1940’s. Therefore drawings would be circa 1945
