Angus Suttie Fantasy Jug, made circa 1985

Freely hand painted in muted under-glaze colours with a transparent glaze on top of the painted surface. The jug is loosely based on early Mexican ceramics. The front of the jug forms a face:the spout being the nose with a raised section to aid pouring; eyes are represented with a triangle painted on either side of the spout; hands are represented with three raised lines on either lower side by the spout. The base sits on a raised ridge with three black lines on base. The clay appears to be a white based clay as opposed to terracotta which he has used for the cups. This is glazed In excellent condition.

Provenance: Private collector and work Colleague of the artist when they both worked at the National Theatre.

They are behind glass, in a showcase, in a museum but giving out such as sense of uncomplicated rightness.’
